     Kazakhstan - a country of magnificent mountain peaks, sparkling glaciers, quiet forest sunsets, desert mystery, giant rocky canyons, emerald lakes, fast flowing rivers, poetic sunlight, unique flora and fauna.

 

     Kazakhstan - the land of the most ancient civilization on the Eurasian continent, and is the home for nomad tribes, a substantial piece of the Great Silk Way (1400 km). 

Kazakhstan is the fatherland of the great philosopher, the Sufism founder — Hodzha Ahmet Jassaui. There are about 27,000 ancient relics in the Republic.


     Location: It is the ninth largest country in the world, covering an area of 2.7 million sq km. It is located in the centre of the Eurasian continent and is bordered by the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and China. The total border length is 12187 km.


     Relief: Kazakhstan is known for a variety of landscapes: from high snow mountains to the low steppes, semi-deserts and deserts. The lowest point — Karagie hollow (-132 m), the highest point — Khan Tengri Peak (7010 m). 

     Flora and Fauna: A thousand species of plants, including Asiatic poplar and elm, thousands of species of plants including, several thousand species of animals: the brown bear, pink flamingo, leopard, saiga, etc.

 

     Climate: Radically continental. Political structure: the State Head is the President. The supreme authority is a parliament consisting of two houses — the Senate and the Mazhilis.

 

     Population: Kazakhstan is a multinational state. The population is about 15 million: Kazakhs — 45%, Rus­ sian — 35%, and over 100 other nationalities — 20%. 

 

     Language: the official language is Kazakh, which belongs to the Turkic group of languages. Russian remains the language of international communications.

 

     Religion: a wide variety of religions, Islam and Christianity being the dominant religions.

 

     Capital: Astana, since 1996 (2724.9 sq. km). 

 

     Largest city: Almaty was the capital of the Republic from 1924 until 1996. The city is the tourist, social, cultural, economic and educational centre of the Republic with a population of over 1.5 million people.

 

      National currency: Tenge.

 

      Time: + 6 GTM (Almaty, Astana).

 

      The best time for travel: May to October.
